Biography: Faramir's gentle nature, and respect for Gandalf, annoyed his father. Despite Faramir's dislike for war, he was a valiant man in battle, and was loved by the soldiers. During the retreat from Osgiliath to Minas Tirith, Faramir fell under the black breath, and was fatally wounded. He was saved from death by the healing hands of Aragorn. During his stay in the Houses of the Healing, he met and fell in love with Eowyn. After the War of the Ring , they were married and Faramir was rewarded the title Prince of Ithilien by Aragorn.

Quote from the book:
"Fear no more! I would not take this thing, if it lay by the high way"...."No, I do not wish for such triumphs." - Faramir.

The books says this about Boromir's life, death and him with his brother:

'So time drew on to the War of the Ring, and the sons of Denethor grew to manhood. Boromir, five years the elder, beloved by his father, was like him in face and pride, but in little else. Rather he was a man after the sort of King Eärnur of old, taking no wife and delighting chiefly in arms; fearless and strong, but caring little for lore, save the tales of old battles. Faramir the younger was like him in looks but otherwise in mind. He read the hearts of men as shrewdly as his father, but what he read moved him sooner to pity than to scorn. He was gentle in bearing, and a lover of lore and of music, and therefore by many in those days his courage was judged less than his brother's. But it was not so, except that he did not seek glory in danger without a purpose. He welcomed Gandalf at such times as he came to the City, and he learned what he could from his wisdom; and in this as in many other matters he displeased his father. 'Yet between the brothers there was great love, and had been since childhood, when Boromir was the helper and protector of Faramir. No jealousy or rivalry had arisen between them since, for their father's favour or for the praise of men. It did not seem possible to Faramir that any one in Gondor could rival Boromir, heir of Denethor, Captain of the White Tower; and of like mind was Boromir. Yet it proved otherwise at the test. But of all that befell these three in the War of the Ring much is said elsewhere. And after the War the days of the Ruling Stewards came to an end; for the heir of Isildur and Anárion returned and the kingship was renewed, and the standard of the White Tree flew once more from the Tower of Ecthelion.'

Biography:
From TTT:
We first see Faramir as he hunts Orcs in the woods with his men. He meets Frodo and Sam and his tempted by the Ring and takes the Hobbits to his father. There he has a change of heart and let the Hobbits go.

From TTT EE:
Faramir sees his brother's body and knows he's dead. Faramir remembers his brother and the day they parted. We see how Boromir loves his younger brother and the hero he is. Also we see how mean their dad is. He praises Boromir but ignores Faramir even when Boromir speaks his case. He finds Sam and Frodo and remembers his brother and how he took care of him and the close relationship they had (and how evil their dad is). He wants to finally make his father love him so he takes the Ring to the capital but then he sees that the Ring needs to be destroyed so he guides Sam and Frodo out of town even though he knows his life will forfeit. He threatens Gollum to be nice to Sam and Frodo.

From ROTK:
Faramir speaks with his dad who tells him he wishes he would be dead instead of Boromir. He then orders him to lead a suicide attack on some Orcs which he does and only he returns, badly wounded. His dad thinks the city is lost and tries to burn himself and his son alive but Gandalf and Merry (I think) saves him, repaying the debt of a life Boromir gave him. His dad dies though. Faramir recovers and oversees Aragorn's coronation with Eowyn.

From ROTK EE:
Not out yet but maybe more between him and Eowyn?

Quote from the film:
"Do you wish then, that our places had been exchanged?"
- Faramir to his dad on Boromir’s death.

"That depends on the matter of your return."
- Faramir and his dad.

Interresting Faramir facts:

- Boromir is his 5 year older brother who has always protected him
- Faramir means "sufficient jewel"
- Faramir was a man of peace and he loved song and Elven lore
- In the books Faramir is never tempted by the Ring - In the books Faramir and Eowyn actually has some screentime together and ends up married which you wouldn’t have guessed from the movies.
- Was rewarded the title Prince of Ithilien by Aragorn (not in the movie...Is it just me or is Faramir really getting abused in these films? *hugs him*)

Faramir's Hero Deeds in TTT:

- Lets Sam and Frodo leave though he know it could mean his death

Faramir's Hero Deeds in ROTK:

- Help defend Gondor's borders
- Leads a suicide mission to kill Orcs to please his dad

David Wenham on Faramir:

- David was chosen for the role as Faramir because he resembled Sean Bean who played Boromir.
- "I come to work every day and get yelled at by my father." - on playing Faramir, referring to Faramir’s father of course.
- In the cave scene in "Lord of the Rings: TTT" where Faramir lifts the Ring from under Frodo's shirt, he was afraid of accidentally stabbing Elijah Wood, so a swordsman was called on to do the scene.

Why the character of Faramir is so fascinating:
I fell in love with this character for several reasons:
1) I find David Wenham who plays him a great actor.
2) He’s such an abused and angsty character. He just screams ‘save me’.
3) He’s sensitive and kind.
4) He’s a man with a tortured soul.
5) He seems so lost and alone.
6) He has a heart of gold, a clear mind and he’s valiant and brave.

Faramir is played by Australian actor David Wenham.

David Wenham information:
- Married with 1 child.
- Played Carl in the Hugh Jackman (Logan from X-men) movie Van Helsing.
- "I must give off the hey-don't-come-near-me vibe." - David
- "How embarrassing. You're not going to show this on national television, surely?" - David
- "I just thought it may have looked potentially a little sad; David Wenham's sad puppet show." - David
- "My life at the moment is a bit like my wardrobe. Organised chaos." - David
- "My fanbase? I'd say mid-fifties to the eighties." - David
